THE THUNDER AT 2019 EAST COAST NATIONALS

South Charlotte Thunder Takes 2nd Place in the Top Bracket

The South Charlotte Thunder took 2nd place in the varsity boys top bracket at the 2019 East Coast Nationals. They finished 5-1 in the tournament which included teams from 13 states. The Thunder earned the #1 seed in the top bracket after winning their first 3 games (pool play) by an average of more than 38 points. In the top bracket, the Thunder beat the Southwest Virginia Conquerors in the quarterfinals by a score of 93-66. Then in the semifinals, the Thunder were victorious over the Heritage Falcons (TX) by a score of 73-58 before falling just short of winning the championship by a score of 44-43.

It was a tremendous season for the South Charlotte Thunder who were 3-peat NCHEAC West Region Conference regular season champions, 3-peat NCHEAC West Region Conference tournament champions, and 3-peat NCHEAC state champions.

The Thunder finished the season 27-3. Great season, Thunder coaches and players! We are proud of you!

Thunder Varsity Wins 3rd Straight NCHEAC State Championship

The South Charlotte Thunder won their 3rd straight NCHEAC State Championship. The Thunder won the semifinal game over the North Wake Storm by a score of 52-35. Thomas Hailey led the team with 16 points, Micah Johnson finished with 12 points, Berkley Sitterson scored 7 points, and Timothy Johnson & Kamin Bond contributed 6 points each.

The Thunder defeated the South Wake Sabres in the championship game by a score of 73-58. Micah Johnson led with 22 points, Timothy Johnson scored 15 points, Berkley Sitterson tallied 12 points, Thomas Hailey added 9 points, and Kamin Bond finished with 6 points.

Micah Johnson was named the state tournament MVP. He scored 34 points in the 2 games. Thomas Hailey (25 points, 18 rebounds) & Timothy Johnson (21 points; 41.7% three point shooting; 5 steals) joined Micah Johnson on the All-Tournament Team.

The Thunder finished the season with a 22-2 record and will play in the East Coast Nationals tournament in Lynchburg, VA in March.

VARSITY WINS 3rd STRAIGHT NCHEAC WEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

Thunder move on to NCHEAC State Final Four

The South Charlotte Thunder won their 3rd straight NCHEAC West Region Championship with a 59-50 win over the Forsyth Hawks. Kamin Bond and Thomas Hailey led the team with 18 points each while Micah Johnson added 10 points and Timothy Johnson contributed 8 points. The team moves on to the NCHEAC state final four tournament next weekend.

Thomas Hailey was named NCHEAC West Region Conference regular season MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. All 5 Thunder starters (Kamin Bond, Thomas Hailey, Micah Johnson, Timothy Johnson, and Berkley Sitterson) were named to the regular season NCHEAC All-Conference Team.

THUNDER JV ADVANCE TO NCHEAC WEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

THUNDER JV 94, ROCKINGHAM 39

The Thunder JV advanced to the NCHEAC West Region championship game with a 94-39 semifinal win over the Rockingham County Rage. Ben Timberlake and Sam Marinack led all scorers with 18 points each. Jordan Dixon added 15 points, Ezekiel Ross had 13 points, and Tanner Sitterson tallied 11 points. Other contributors were Aaron Hill with 7 points, and Ben Miller & Josh Broome with 6 points each. The championship will be against the Cabarrus Stallions.

Congratulations to the South Charlotte Thunder Middle School team and Coach Abbott on a great inaugural season. These young men were dedicated and worked hard all season long. Thomas Hailey scores his 1,000th point

Thomas Hailey scored his 1,000th point with the South Charlotte Thunder vasity in a win against the Greenville Hurricanes. He not only averages a double-double for the season (17.2 points; 10.2 rebounds) but also for his whole varsity career.

THE THUNDER WINS 74-48 IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME

Timothy Johnson-18 points; Micah Johnson-17 points, 20 rebounds; Thomas Hailey-15 points

The South Charlotte Thunder varsity got a win in their last regular season game over the Greenville Hurricanes by a score of 74-48. Timothy Johnson (pictured) led the team with 18 points and finished the regular season shooting 41.4% from the 3 point line. Micah Johnson finished with his 8th double-double of the season with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Thomas Hailey added 15 points. The team goes into NCHEAC West Region tournament play with a 19-2 record.

The Thunder JV beat the Hurricanes JV by a score of 47-33. Ben Timberlake scored 15 points and Ezekiel Ross finished with 14 points. The Thunder JV finished the season with a 22-4 record. The Thunder middle school fell to the Hurricanes by a score of 40-20.

THUNDER VICTORIOUS OVER ELEVATION PREP

All Starters Score in Double Figures in 80-61 Win

The South Charlotte Thunder varsity improved to 19-2 on the season with a convincing 80-61 win over Elevation Prep. The team's unselfish play was on display again as all 5 starters scored in double figures. Kamin Bond led with 22 points, Thomas Hailey & Micah Johnson contributed 16 points each, Timothy Johnson had 11 points, and Berkley Sitterson added 10 points. Up next for the team is the Greenville Hurricanes this Friday before they begin their run for a 3rd straight NCHEAC state championship.

Come out and join the Thunder this Friday, February 8 for the last regular season game of the season. The Middle School plays at 5:00, JV at 6:15, and the varsity game begins at 7:40 at Northwest School of the Arts, 1415 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.

Thunder Defeat Last Year's East Coast Nationals Champion

The South Charlotte Thunder varisty avenged a semifinal loss in last year's East Coast Nationals tournament in Lynchburg, VA with a 70-59 victory over the Central Virginia Patriots. Kamin Bond scored 22 points, and Micah Johnson had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Berkley Sitterson added 12 points, and Thomas Hailey finished with 11 points. Timothy Johnson led the team with 5 assists. The team improved to 16-2 on the season.

The Thunder JV beat the Asheville Trailblazers 48-37, led by Ben Timberlake's 10 points. The Thunder MS fell to the Trailblazers by a score of 47-40.

Thunder finishes undefeated in conference play; Kamin Bond leads with 25 points

The South Charlotte Thunder varsity finished conference play undefeated with a 81-44 win over the Cabarrus Stallions. Kamin Bond (pictured) led the team with 25 points. Thomas Hailey scored 19 points, and Micah Johnson finished with 12 points.

The Thunder JV won over the Stallions by a score of 70-67. The Thunder Middle School fell short in their game.

THUNDER RUMBLE; KNIGHTS CRUMBLE

Thunder Victorious over Comenius - Berkley Sitterson finished with 22 points

The Thunder varsity beat the Comenius Knights by a score of 79-73. The Thunder went out to an early 22-16 lead after the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the game. At one point the Thunder led by 18 points in the second half. The Knights had no answer for Berkley Sitterson (pictured) who scored 22 points and shot 6 for 7 from the 3 point line. Thomas Hailey (14 points) and Micah Johnson (13 points) dominated the paint. Timothy Johnson added 9 points, Kamin Bond 8 points, Jeremiah Abbott 6 points, Gavin Bouldin 5 points, and Will Miller 2 points. The team improved to 14-2 on the season.

THUNDER VARSITY CLINCHES CONFERENCE TITLE WITH WIN OVER FORSYTH HAWKS

Thunder 72; Forsyth 48 - Micah Johnson finishes with 22 points & 11 Rebounds

The Thunder varsity clinch the NCHEAC Western Conference title with a 72-48 win over the Forsyth Hawks. Micah Johnson led the way with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Thomas Hailey finished with 18 points, Timothy Johnson added 14 points, & Berkley Sitterson contributed 7 points in the win. The team improved to 13-2 on the season.

The Thunder JV beat Forsyth by a score of 87-48. The leading scorers were Sam Marinack with 18 points, Jordan Dixon with 16 points, and Ben Timberlake & Ezekiel Ross with 14 each. Ben Miller finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

THUNDER HITS THE CENTURY MARK

THUNDER 100; PANTHERS 40 - Thomas Hailey finishes with 24 points

The South Charlotte Thunder varsity set a team record in a 100-40 victory against the PAC Panthers in Columbia, SC. This is the first time the team has ever hit the century mark. Thomas Hailey led the team with 24 points on 11 of 15 shooting from the field. He also added 10 rebounds. Timothy Johnson finished with 21 points and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the 3 point line. He also added 8 assists. Kamin Bond contributed 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting from the field and also added 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Thunder JV won by a score of 47-27. The Thunder MS fell by a score of 37-33.

THE THUNDER WINS AGAINST CHARLOTTE SECONDARY PHOENIX

VARSITY & JV BOTH GET WINS - Kamin Bond leads varsity with 18 points

The Thunder varsity was victorious over the South Charlotte Phoenix by a score of 69-61. Balanced scoring was the key, led by Kamin Bond with 18 points. Timothy Johnson finished with 15 points and 7 assists. Micah Johnson scored 14 points and finished with 21 rebounds. Thomas Hailey added 14 points and 10 rebounds for his 8th double-double of the season.

The Thunder JV also got the win by a score of 69-46. Every player on the team scored in the game, led by 18 points by Ezekiel Ross, 13 by Sam Marinack, 10 by Jeremiah Abbott, 8 by Ben Miller, 7 by Jordan Dixon, and 5 by Tanner Sitterson.

THUNDER MIDDLE SCHOOL WINS AGAINST CHARLOTTE SECONDARY

Thunder MS 29; Charlotte Secondary 15

The South Charlotte Thunder Middle School notched a 29-15 win over the Charlotte Secondary Phoenix on Saturday. Mason Kern (pictured) and Aaron Hill led the team with 13 points each. Courtney George added 2 points, and Michael Andrade contributed 1 point.

THE THUNDER ROLLS OVER LAKE POINTE ACADEMY

Thunder varsity wins 92-58; Timothy Johnson finishes with 22 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, & 3 steals

The Thunder varsity and JV both won convincingly over the Lake Pointe Academy Mariners. The varsity won by a score of 92-58. Timothy Johnson led all scorers with 22 points, sparked by a 4 for 4 streak of 3 pointers in the last 3 mintues of the first half. He also added 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Kamin Bond added 17 points on 5 for 7 shooting from 2 point range and 2 for 3 shooting from 3 point range. He also added 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. Thomas Hailey finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds, and Micah Johnson had 16 points and 9 rebounds. Berkley Sitterson led the team with 8 assists, and Will Miller contributed 8 rebounds.

The JV was victorious by a score of 62-27. Ezekiel Ross led the team with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Jordan Dixon added 9 points and 6 steals, while Ben Miller and Sam Marinack contributed 8 points each.

THUNDER GET SEASON SWEEP AGAINST ARBORBROOK

Thunder Varsity 96; Falcons 67

The Thunder Varsity and JV finished a season sweep of the Arborbrook Falcons. The Thunder Varsity remained undefeated all-time against the Falcons with a 96-67 win. Thomas Hailey and Micah Johnson (pictured) dominated the paint and combined for 43 points. Thomas Hailey finished with 26 points, and Micah Johnson finished with 17 points. Kamin Bond contributed 16 points, Jeremiah Abbott added 14 points, while Berkley Sitterson tallied 10 points.

The Thunder JV won by a score of 69-33. Ben Timberlake led all scorers with 16 points, Jordan Dixon had 15 points, Ezekiel Ross contributed 12 points, and Sam Marinack finished with 10 points.

The Thunder MS fell by a score of 31-21 in a hard fought game.

REVERBERATING 73-33 WIN FOR THUNDER VARSITY

Thunder Advance to Tournament Championship Game

The Thunder varsity cruised to a 73-33 win over Charlotte Secondary in the semifinal of the Craze Sports Christmas Tournament in Charlotte. The game was marked by balanced scoring, led by Berkley Sitterson with 14 points on 3-4 shooting from the 3 point line. Thomas Hailey scored 13, Timothy Johnson added 12, Kamin Bond finished with 10, Gavin Bouldin and Will Miller contributed 8 points each, while Jeremiah Abbott added 6 points. The Thunder advance to the championship game against the Comenius Knights.

The Thunder JV also advanced to the championship game of the tournament with a win over the Cabarrus Stallions by a score of 43-35.

THUNDER SINK THE MARINERS

Thunder Varsity 85; Mt. Island Day 39

The South Charlottte Thunder varsity started the Craze Sports Christmas tournament in Charlotte with a win over Mountain Island Day by a score of 85-39. Thomas Hailey led all scorers with 26 points. Timothy Johnson added 18, Kamin Bond finished with 16, Gavin Bouldin contributed 9 points, Will Miller had 8 points, and Berkley Sitterson 7 points. The Thunder JV also started the tournament with a win against Carolina Christian by a score of 62-40.

THUNDER VARSITY CALMS THE HURRICANES

Thunder 78; Greenville Hurricanes 48

The Thunder varsity rolled over the Greenville Hurricanes by a score of 78-48. All five starters scored in double figures. Micah Johnson finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds while Thomas Hailey had 15 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. Timothy Johnson added 16 points, Kamin Bond 13 points, Berkley Sitterson 10 points, and Gavin Bouldin 5 points. The Thunder improved to 6-1 on the season.

THUNDER WITH CONVINCING WIN vs FORSYTH HAWKS

Thunder Varsity wins 70-42; JV wins 77-43

The South Charlotte Thunder varsity won convincingly against the Forsyth Hawks by a score of 70-42. Thomas Hailey (pictured) and Micah Johnson dominated in the paint. Thomas Hailey had 25 points, and Micah Johnson finished with 14 points. Kamin Bond contributed 10 points and 10 assists. The Thunder improved to 5-0 on the season (2-0 in the conference).

The Thunder JV also won by a convincing score of 77-43. Sam Marinack led all scorers with 28 points. Jordan Dixon contributed 17 points, and Ben Timberlake finsished with 16 points. The JV improved to 6-1 on the season.

The Thunder Middle School fell short by a score of 40-27. Mason Kern led the team with 13 points. Michael Andrade scored 8 points, Chris Pepper finished with 4 points, and Daniel Miranda contributed 2 points.

THUNDER VARSITY GETS RESOUNDING WIN AGAINST CABARRUS

Thunder Varsity Wins 80-47; JV & Middle School Fall

The Thunder Varsity improved to 4-0 on the season with a win over the Cabarrus Stallions by a score of 80-47. Timothy Johnson led all scorers with 23 points. He was a perfect 5-5 from the 3-point line and 4-6 from 2 pointers to go 9-11 overall. He also added 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Thomas Hailey had 17 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Kamin Bond added 13 points and 7 assists, and Micah Johnson contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds.

The Thunder JV came up just short by a score of 51-48. Ben Timberlake finished with 18 points, Sam Marinack had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Josh Broome added 6 points, and Ben Miller pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Thunder MS lost their first conference game of the season.

Next up for all three teams is conference foe, the Forsyth Hawks, on Friday night.

THUNDER JV & MIDDLE SCHOOL VICTORIOUS OVER GUILFORD HEAT

THUNDER BEAT THE HEAT

It was an exciting evening of Thunder basketball as the JV and Middle School played their first conference games of the year against the Guilford County Heat. The night began with a hard fought Middle School victory by a score of 26-22. Mason Kern led the team with 11 points. Mason shot 3-4 from 3 point range. Michael Andrande scored 9 points. Aurek Fenn, Chris Pepper, and Daniel Miranda contribed 2 points each. Daniel Miranda came up big with 20 rebounds.

In the JV game, the Thunder trailed the whole game until a huge comback in the 4th quarter led by Aaron Hill and Sam Marinack. Aaron and Sam combined for 27 points in the 4th quarter and overtime. Sam Marinack finished with 17 points. Aaron Hill finished with 15 points and hit a game tying 3 point shot with seconds left in regulation.

The Thunder Middle School is now 1-1 on the season. The Thunder JV is undefeated at 5-0.

The Thunder Middle School, JV, and Varsity teams are all in action on Tuesday, December 4 at the Cabarrus Stallions.

THUNDER WIN OVER CHARLOTTE SECONDARY

Varsity wins 67-62; JV wins 61-59 in OT

The Thunder varsity and JV were both victorious against the Charlotte Secondary Phoenix. The varsity won by a score of 67-62. Kamin Bond led the team with 20 points on 10-12 shooting from the field. Jeremiah Abbott finished with 15 points, Thomas Hailey had 13 points, Timothy Johnson contributed 8 points and led the team with 11 rebounds, while Micah Johnson tallied 7 points. The Thunder are now 3-0 as they begin conference play next week.

The Thunder JV won in overtime by a score of 61-59. Jeremiah Abbott led the way with 20 points, and Will Miller added 10 points. The Thunder JV are now 3-0 on the season. Before they begin conference play next week, they play Piedmont Community Charter on Friday, November 30.

THUNDER RUMBLE IN HOME OPENER vs GRACE ACADEMY

VARSITY WINS 92-41; JV WINS 56-39; MS DEFEATED 39-36 IN OVERTIME

The Thunder varsity came away with a convincing 92-41 win against the Grace Academy Lions on opening night at home. Nine players scored, with Timothy Johnson (pictured) leading the team with 20 points on 80% shooting from 2 pointers and 40% shooting from 3 point range. Timothy Johnson also added 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Thomas Hailey finished with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Thomas Hailey is averaging a double-double for the season. Kamin Bond finished with 16 points and 5 assists, Micah Johnson finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds, Berkley Sitterson had 9 points and 6 assists, Will Miller added 8 points and 4 rebounds, Jeremiah Abbott contributed 6 points, Gavin Bouldin had 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Ben Broussard finished with 2 points.

The Thunder JV won by a score of 56-39. All players on the team scored, led by Will Miller with 13 points, Gavin Bouldin & Sam Marinack with 9 points each, and Jeremiah Abbott with 7 points.

Both the varsity and JV teams improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Middle School team lost a hard fought game in overtime by a score of 39-36. Aaron Hill led all scorers with 29 points.

The next game for varsity, JV, and MS is Tuesday, November 27 against Charlotte Secondary.

Thunder Victorious in Season Opener

Thunder 80; Arborbrook 63

The South Charlotte Thunder opened the 2018-19 season with JV and varsity wins against the Arborbrook Falcons. The Thunder varsity came away with an 80-63 victory. Five players scored in double figures with Thomas Hailey leading all scorers with 27 points. Kamin Bond finished with 14 points, Berkley Sitterson with 13, Timothy Johnson with 12, and Micah Johnson with 10. The Thunder JV won by a score of 80-44. All 9 players on the team scored in the game, and 5 were in double figures. Ben Timberlake led the team with 18 points, Gavin Bouldin added 17 points, Jeremiah Abbott contributed 11 points, while both Sam Mirinack and Ben Miller finished with 10 points each. The Thunder Middle School, JV, and varsity have their home openers on Friday, November 16 the Grace Academy Lions.
